Coastlines is an inquiry into spaces. The exhibition is a collection of works I created over that past year exploring the themes of the coast, driftwood, and geometric form. In contrast to the deadline focused work I created during university, these works stemmed from a playful and experimental position. I find the coastline a reflective place. Where two worlds collide, ebb and flow into each other.

Using driftwood I collected from Aberdeen Beach I created a large circle by weaving the pieces together. It was an almost compulsive act to create with the materials available to me. The location on the beach was also an important element, making the work in the open to be framed by the sea, sky, and sand. From this point, I continued to explore spaces and woven wood. I created a series of woven branches to be displayed in large lamps, with paintings on clear acrylic to be lit up by the lamps inside. The act of weaving them together and experimenting with the material was an important part of the process. Other works on display continue to play with space and forms with a combination of natural and man-made material.

Special thanks to All in Ideas for awarding me this exhibition.
